“It’s not clubby here. It’s more real.”

 – Shelley Fritsch (Anderson, SC),
Eagles Nest Homeowner

When Shelley Fritsch first visited Eagles Nest in August of 2016 it was by sheer chance. She had been looking in the mountains of Western North Carolina for several years. All she knew for sure was that she wanted high elevation, above 4,000 feet: “we wanted to be above the bug line,” she says. Although she had seen some beautiful mountain property and toured countless communities, nothing had really jumped out. Then one day, out of the blue, she got a postcard in the mail from a place she’d never heard of: “it was from Eagles Nest, some community near Banner Elk. I thought I’d give it a look.” Turns out that first look was all it took—she bought a lot that day. “I knew right away,” Shelley said. “I was drawn to the laid-back feel of the community, all the fantastic amenities they had, and, of course, the natural setting. It was very much love at first site.”

Shelley’s New High Country Home

Shelley bought a beautiful homesite at 4,100 feet overlooking the Pavilion. “The views there won me over,” Shelley says. “You can see Beech Mountain clearly, and off in the distance you can see mountains in Tennessee and Virginia, which is amazing when you think about it.” What was equally amazing to Shelley was the sheer number of amenities and activities that Eagles Nest offered on site. “I looked at dozens of communities over the course of five or six years,” says Shelley, “and none of them offered such a dynamic and versatile outdoor lifestyle as Eagles Nest. There’s so much to do there: Great Camp, TeePee Village, Boulder Park, North Pavilion, River Club…I mean, they thought of everything. There’s something for little kids, teenagers, parents, and grandparents. How many places can offer all that?”

A great location with a great atmosphere

One of the signature features of Eagles Nest is its relaxed, laid-back atmosphere. It’s befitting of the High Country itself, in particular, the town of Banner Elk. “So many communities and golf resorts we looked at in Western North Carolina seemed pretentious and snooty,” Shelley said. “That was the last thing I wanted. Look, I love golf, but I don’t want the attitude or added expense that so many golf communities have. At Eagles Nest there was just a different energy. It was inclusive and casual, the people were friendly and down to earth. I felt at ease and at home right away. In fact, one of the first things I did was go to a summer concert series at Great Camp. They do that every weekend in the summer—and so many families show up with kids and friends. It’s one big party on the mountain. Just a great scene for anyone who wants to go.”

An approachable community for one and all

When brothers Will and Mark Adkins originally bought the Eagles Nest community, their goal was to create a fun, camp-like experience for homeowners who could realize the kind of experience they enjoyed as kids and, in turn, share that experience with their own kids. Everything about Eagles Nest hearkens back to a more simple, nostalgic time, when life was less complicated, the days seemed a little longer, and outdoor activity was more important than cell phones and Neflix. “The lifestyle is wonderful,” says Shelley, “it’s unlike anything else in the High Country.” There are people of all ages and backgrounds here, yet everyone shares a common love of nature and the outdoors. Everyone is respectful and thoughtful of one another. I’ve even see the owners, Mark and Will, with their families at these events here. They love hanging out and really care about the community. They even check on the homes after storms or snowfalls to make sure things are ok. That says a lot to me about their character, as well as the overall character of the community as a whole.”

“I bought a place here because of what it wasn’t: another country club.”

Art Sabates (Charlotte, NC),
Eagles Nest Homeowner

Art Sabates is a successful business man. He owns several businesses, has been on the board of several developments, and has learned to ask good questions before making an investment. That’s exactly what he did at Eagles Nest. He actually knew the original owners at Eagles Nest who, like so many, were unable to continue after the crash of 2007-2008. When he heard about the new developers at Eagles Nest, brothers Mark and Will Adkins, he did some research. “I checked them out,” Art says. “And the more I looked at their track record and their credentials, I realized these guys were doing it right. They had solid financial backing for capital needed to complete a project the size of Eagles Nest and they had great vision.”

A classic High Country lifestyle, without the attitude

Art was attracted to Eagles Nest from the beginning. “I just liked the idea of it,” he says. “That goes back to the original owners. And I was curious who was coming in to finish the development and do it right. And that’s exactly what Will and Mark have done. Their vision was very attractive to me—to continue the creation of an amenity-rich, outdoor, family-oriented, camp-style development that was anti-country club. I didn’t want the snobbiness or the pretentiousness or someone telling me I had to wear a coat or a tie. Who needs that?” As it turns out, not many people at all want that, considering that Eagles Nest has become (by far!) the best-selling community in the High Country over the past three years. “This is a really dynamic, high-energy community that is a true year-round destination for families. It is a great location, down the road from Banner Elk, with great restaurants and it’s close to the ski slopes. There’s always something going on Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. And if you look at all the amenities Eagles nest has added—they basically developed the entire back side of the mountain in a short amount of time. That tells me two things: 1) they are committed to making Eagles Nest the premier community up here, and 2) they have the capital to do it.”

An easy, streamlined building experience

Art bought his homesite in July of 2016. He built his home over the next year, moving in July 2017. And as Art will be the first to tell you, the building experience was very satisfying. “I bought a lot by the Park, on the north side. It has great views, the concept that I was looking for, and it’s close proximity to the North Pavilion and its amenities.  The whole thing went smoothly. I met with the builder, Serenity Custom Homes, and worked directly with Kevin and Joe, owners of Serenity, on customizing my floor plan. We built it from the ground up. It was all very easy and streamlined, an absolute pleasurable experience as far as building a home goes. Joe and Kevin genuinely care about the homeowners and do everything they can to make sure it all goes well. That’s why Eagles Nest is the most successful community up here. They have great property, with premier amenities and activities, and multiple real estate options to meet people’s needs. Their salespeople are very professional and knowledgeable. And most of all, they treat people right.”

“Wow! Wow! Stunning!! This place is Special, like nothing you’ve ever seen. Jeremy took us up the mountain and showed us what this place has to offer, not just the beautiful home sites but also the features that make you feel like you’re “Over the Rainbow”. He was very laid back, friendly, and knowledgeable. There was no pressure whatsoever. Eagles Nest sold US! After looking at the lots, we asked Jeremy, where do we sign and we bought our lot that day in the Farms. Lot F-5 for a Great Price!! If you own a Lot and are not ready to build yet, you can still enjoy all the amenities The Lodges at Eagles Nest has to offer. And, you can bring your guests!

You can have all the privacy you want but if you want to socialize, there are events throughout the year and every weekend that bring the owners and their guests together. From the ropes course, ATV trails, Frisbee golf, hiking trails, soccer field, archery, basketball courts, horse shoe pit, volleyball, soon to be equestrian center, the Toy Barn where all outdoor equipment is provided, games, etc. there is something for Everyone! We’ve stayed 3 weekends in the Teepee Village where King Beds, Refrig and Coffee makers are provided. Each Teepee has its own fire pit and there are 5 of them to choose from. The bathhouse is close by and very clean, there are 5 of those as well.

We enjoy going up on the weekends and seeing familiar faces gathered around the Large Fire pits listening to the live bands, roasting smores, and enjoying the great food, drinks and camaraderie.

Everyone with the Waterfront group is so friendly and they’ve hired an excellent staff to run the place. I could go on and on but really wanted to share my experience of this paradise we found at The Lodges at Eagles Nest.

”We are super excited about the opportunities at the lodges at Eagles Nest in banner Elk! From our first visit we have been in love with the incredible views and vast activities available. Waterfront has been proactive in establishing a world class resort and activity center with a plethora of fun activities and concerts throughout the summer months. The Fall months are spectacular! We can’t say enough positive things about our experiences with the staff at Eagles Nest Realty. They are helpful, knowledgeable and take pride in showing off their community and genuinely encourage a family like community atmosphere. We liked it so much we just purchased a second lot! The future is bright!”

“The entire experience with Jessica at Eagles Nest was fantastic. She knew the property very well, and was able to answer all our questions. Eagles Nest is a fantastic community and we are thrilled to be part of it.”

“Jessica with The Waterfront Group has been great to work with. She always updates me with the latest developments and properties for sale. Their one on one service is exceptional. I have been fortunate enough to have purchased a magnificent lot well below market value with their assistance. Their approach is very painless from initial contact through the closing process. They also provided owner financing which made the closing very timely. I’m proud to be a repeat customer of The Waterfront Group and plan on hopefully many new purchases in the future.”
