Eagles Nest: A Camp for Everyone

“Eagles Nest is like a great big camp for everyone— kids and adults.”

 – Adam Cranford, Eagles Nest Activities Director

If you thought camp was just for kids, then you need to think again. Way up in the North Carolina mountains—some 5,000+ feet high just outside of Boone and Banner Elk—lies the High Country’s most sought after master-planned family community: Eagles Nest. At the heart of Eagles Nest is Great Camp, a dynamic, rustic, bygone-era-style campground and activity area that helps kids and “grown ups” reconnect to an idyllic, outdoor living experience that pre-dates the internet, mobile phones, and social apps.

“No other place like Eagles Nest”

Eagles Nest Activities Director, Adam Cranford, can speak directly to what makes Great Camp so special. “There’s no other place quite like this in the High Country and very few in the nation. Eagles Nest has something for everyone five years old and up. Our activity camp for kids is designed to engage parents as well. They can share these outdoor experiences and create memories with their kids if they choose to. Our typical demographic is really anyone who loves to hike, bike, play sports, fish, camp, and ride UTVs. Eagles Nest appeals to the kid in everyone.”

Families come together at Great Camp

Great Camp is the cornerstone of life at Eagles Nest, and thoroughly unique in the High Country for its variety of amenities and activities. This dynamic area features a wide variety of fun and games, including: a disc golf course, playground, archery, ropes course, climbing towers, horse shoes, corn hole, and access to the community’s extensive hiking trail network. Then there’s the sweet sound of music in these high rolling hills. Every weekend from Labor Day to Memorial Day, Eagles Nest puts on an entertaining Summer Concert Series for members and guests, complete with food, drink, children’s games, and a great lineup of bands.

A full program of fun for kids

Unlike some mountain communities, Eagles Nest doesn’t just talk about kid-friendly activities, they deliver. This is a community that kids not only love—but a community that brings out the kid in everyone, regardless of age. “From June through November this place is hopping,” says Adam. “We have a full slate of programs and sports and nature activities for kids and we try to come up with something new and fun to do every time families are here.” That’s not hard to do when you’re blessed with a magical mountain setting imbued with panoramic views, picturesque forests, and streams, 10 miles of horse trails, 16 miles of hiking trails, and 20+ miles of UTV trails. On top of that, there’s fly-fishing at the River Club, kickball, football, and soccer on the great field, blueberry foraging, arts and crafts, rock climbing, and scheduled activities throughout the day, even at night. “We get kids outside and fill the days with fun and games,” says Adam. “And we welcome all the parents and grandparents to come experience and participate too. Our goal is to make every trip to Eagles Nest an unforgettable experience—filled with things that kids and parents may never have been able to do before, things they can discover anew throughout the years.”
