“I bought a place here because of what it wasn’t: another country club.”
Art Sabates (Charlotte, NC),
Eagles Nest Homeowner
Art Sabates is a successful business man. He owns several businesses, has been on the board of several developments, and has learned to ask good questions before making an investment. That’s exactly what he did at Eagles Nest. He actually knew the original owners at Eagles Nest who, like so many, were unable to continue after the crash of 2007-2008. When he heard about the new developers at Eagles Nest, brothers Mark and Will Adkins, he did some research. “I checked them out,” Art says. “And the more I looked at their track record and their credentials, I realized these guys were doing it right. They had solid financial backing for capital needed to complete a project the size of Eagles Nest and they had great vision.”
A classic High Country lifestyle, without the attitude
Art was attracted to Eagles Nest from the beginning. “I just liked the idea of it,” he says. “That goes back to the original owners. And I was curious who was coming in to finish the development and do it right. And that’s exactly what Will and Mark have done. Their vision was very attractive to me—to continue the creation of an amenity-rich, outdoor, family-oriented, camp-style development that was anti-country club. I didn’t want the snobbiness or the pretentiousness or someone telling me I had to wear a coat or a tie. Who needs that?” As it turns out, not many people at all want that, considering that Eagles Nest has become (by far!) the best-selling community in the High Country over the past three years. “This is a really dynamic, high-energy community that is a true year-round destination for families. It is a great location, down the road from Banner Elk, with great restaurants and it’s close to the ski slopes. There’s always something going on Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. And if you look at all the amenities Eagles nest has added—they basically developed the entire back side of the mountain in a short amount of time. That tells me two things: 1) they are committed to making Eagles Nest the premier community up here, and 2) they have the capital to do it.”
An easy, streamlined home building experience
Art bought his homesite in July of 2016. He built his home over the next year, moving in July 2017. And as Art will be the first to tell you, the building experience was very satisfying. “I bought a lot by the Park, on the north side. It has great views, the concept that I was looking for, and it’s close proximity to the North Pavilion and its amenities. The whole thing went smoothly. I met with the builder, Serenity Custom Homes, and worked directly with Kevin and Joe, owners of Serenity, on customizing my floor plan. We built it from the ground up. It was all very easy and streamlined, an absolute pleasurable experience as far as building a home goes. Joe and Kevin genuinely care about the homeowners and do everything they can to make sure it all goes well. That’s why Eagles Nest is the most successful community up here. They have great property, with premier amenities and activities, and multiple real estate options to meet people’s needs. Their salespeople are very professional and knowledgeable. And most of all, they treat people right.”
